My mom is in the hospital and the nursing staff has told me that she will probably not be able to return home. I live out of town and have no idea where to start! Can private companies be hired to provide nursing in her home? Would it be better to look for assisted living? I know she will not want to leave Calgary.

The best place to start is with the hospital team that is providing care for your mom - they will be able to tell you what type and how much care your mom will need. They will also be able to assist you in finding suitable accommodation if she needs more care than can be provided by assisted living or retirement homes.
